This past week I've primarily been focusing on completing the second literature review, hence the lack of blog updates. I've also been struggling a lot with focus, but now that the literature assignment is complete I'm feeling much less overwhelmed and am hoping to be able to get back into studio research and making over study week.
Below is a downloadable link to the completed assignment. It discusses ideas of ecology, technology and semiotics in relation to how modern societies conceptualize and interact with the natural world around them, and explores work by Timothy Morton, Richard Coyne, Semiconductor duo, Joyce Campbell and Sorawit Songsataya.
As part of researching for this assignment, I also visited Te Uru Gallery last weekend to see Songsataya's work in person. It is currently part of the Otherwise-image-worlds exhibition that I wrote about last week (see CIRCUIT ep. 106 podcast notes). I'm really glad that I did as the experience was really curious, and has given me ideas around both how Blender can be employed in a very abstract and artistic way and the ways that young contemporary New Zealand artists are exploring large themes using this kid of medium. Below are a few photos I took of Songsataya's work (unfortunately I didn't take very many of the other works there as I was more focused on the experience than on documentation).
