With crits coming up next week, I'm trying to figure out what I want to be presenting and how... Today I brought in one of my projectors to see how the videos I've been working on look on a larger scale. Below are some small clips of this process (each video tested is between 10-60 seconds, so they are very short; unfortunately I forgot that my projector can't handle 4K resolution so some of the files didn't play, oops); I need to remember my curtain tomorrow as the space is too bright...
Bark LIDAR:
Misc clips (flower orb, Orakei basin particle drawings, missing clip, pond collage, bark):
Some thoughts
I love the vibrancy of the colours in the yellow flower orb and constructed landscape clips. I think that the landscape works well as a gif so doesn't necessarily need the larger scale, but I think the orb probably does if presented in isolation... Still, was a very different experience seeing the constructed landscape on a large scale as it allowed the water to feel a lot more "real" (which is kind of funny to me) and the detail of the LIDAR elements to come through
the rotating bark also feels very different on a large scale; I appreciate how much more landscape-like it feels now that all the details and variations of its surface are visible. Encountering it as a bodily object of sorts feels slightly...off? I'm not sure what's jarring me about that - perhaps the spectacle nature, or having the entire object presented in frame; tomorrow I want to see what the other close-up video of it looks like on a large scale
